Embracing a concept of “serenity”, Nieto Sobejano Architects and Landau + Kindelbacher pay tribute to the building’s historical heritage while reinterpreting luxury in a modern fashion. Upon arrival, guests are welcomed into a stunning, spacious atrium. Slatted volumes and large, gold-colored walls open up to historic Stachus, otherwise known as Karlsplatz, providing connection between the interior and exterior of the hotel, give it the feel of a luxurious urban sanctuary.
Throughout the interiors, art plays a key role. The Königshof’s aim is seamlessly to combine Bavaria’s rich tradition of collecting with the city’s continuing passion for fine art. The collection on display represents internationally-renowned artists such as Joseph Beuys, Christo and Jeanne-Claude, and David John Flynn, among many others, and complements the hotel’s architecture and interior design.
The design of the 106 rooms, carefully curated by Munich-based studio Landau + Kindelbacher, conveys a feeling of privacy and exclusivity. Warm contrasts meet a sophisticated blend of modern furniture, curated works of art and elegant textiles. Each room radiates the warm, cosmopolitan personality so characteristic of the Munich way of life. A personal welcome card with illustrations by Munich designer Alexandra von Frankenberg, a fragrance created especially for the Königshof, and exclusive Königshof tea further ensure this.
A minimalist design compromising simple, rectilinear forms and timeless stone surfaces create a sense of tranquility and balance in each of the Königshof’s bathrooms. To complement this atmosphere, the interior designers opted for a tasteful selection of AXOR products: a one-lever AXOR One mixer at the washbasin and an AXOR One thermostat module and AXOR Starck 1jet hand shower at the bath. Wall-mounted and finished in Brushed Black Chrome, this arrangement projects a sense of composed elegance while underlining the subtle interplay between the archetypal forms of the AXOR Starck and the elemental refinement of AXOR One.
The Königshof offers a unique culinary food-and-beverage concept that provides guests maximum flexibility while leaving nothing to be desired. Guests can enjoy breakfast in the restaurant on the 9th floor, with its panoramic views, or in the bar, which serves local Bavarian dishes among other specialties. This innovative concept continues in The Green & The Gold on the 3rd floor. The Königshof’s day bar and lounge offers a retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city with specially-created delicacies such as Königshof tea, the Königshof Bellini and a teatime highlight, the Königshof cake, an homage to the world-famous Bavarian Prince Regent cake.
The later in the evening, the more colorful things get: Rooftop Latin-American restaurant GRETA OTO amazes and delights under the direction of renowned Peruvian chef Michael Cánepa. Exceptional South American cocktails can be enjoyed in the adjoining bar, while the roof terrace offers a unique view over Munich.
