A picturesque bathroom retreat perched on the cliffs of Capri
As part of the 'Escape the ordinary' campaign from AXOR, celebrated British interior architectural practice Tara Bernerd & Partners developed the stunning Azzurro bathroom concept. Drawing inspiration from the sunny island of Capri, with its serene landscapes and shimmering sea, the designer created two distinctive moods, titled "Daylight" and "Golden Hour". Blending functionality with artistry, these spaces elevate ordinary routines into extraordinary restorative experiences.
Natural materials play a key role in establishing the mood. With their subtle sheen and elegant curves, the exquisite stone surfaces of Azzurro create a spectacular play of light and shadow that immediately establishes a deeper connection with the surroundings. Fine details in timber bring contrast and warmth to the space. At the heart of both concepts is the iconic yet versatile AXOR One collection, its sleek mix of straight lines and elegant curves providing the perfect starting point for this innovative cliffside retreat. By its minimal, sculptural qualities and the outstanding water experiences it provides, AXOR One is a natural choice to underpin the rejuvenating atmosphere of Azzurro.
Daylight
Taking cues from the “natural allure and timeless style” of Capri, Bernerd’s "Daylight" mood features a series of soft, undulating forms that emphasize the bathroom’s abundant sunlight and breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea. Conjuring an atmosphere at once relaxing and luxurious, the designer combines an organic marble flooring pattern with free-form Taj Mahal quartzite walls, shadow gaps and a refined selection of sculptural elements, chief among them fixtures from the AXOR One collection.
Sensuous forms
Defined by their elegant cross handles and soft, sensuous forms, the AXOR One products guide and reflect the overall concept design. 3-hole wall-mounted basin mixers with cross handles make a statement at the monolithic double washbasin. The shower area is equipped with an overhead shower with thermostatic module, matching porter unit and hand shower; the marble bath with a wall-mounted cross-handle bath mixer with hand shower. Cast in luminous Brushed Bronze, the fixtures enrich the refined material palette, delivering a seamless fusion of design and performance that is both opulent yet understated.
Golden Hour
Bernerd’s second take on the Azzurro theme, 'Golden Hour', builds on the soft shapes and sharp detailing of the first with a rich palette of elements that invites guests to unwind. Marble Palladian flooring, Italian Calacatta Viola accents and dark wooden trimmings resonate with the golden hues of dusk, enhancing the room’s luxurious and inviting atmosphere. Above, a central skylight amplifies the interplay of light and shadow, flooding the room with a soft, diffused glow. A thoughtful choice of AXOR One products enhances the mood.
Laid-back elegance
The understated minimalism of AXOR One smartly complements the laid-back elegance of this space. A 3-hole wall-mounted basin mixer with lever handles and an AXOR Suite basin catch the eye at the washbasin. The sleek arrangement of a Showerpipe and cold-water affusion pipe set offers a luxurious, immersive experience at the shower. A 3-hole wall-mounted bath mixer with lever handles and hand shower adorns the bath. Finished in sleek Polished Black Chrome, the products underscore the rich sensibility and tactile quality of the surrounding design.
Inspired by AXOR One
Bernerd’s approach when designing Azzurro was holistic, centered on the power of natural materials, light and rituals. As she explains, “a bathroom should be a sanctuary where you can unwind from the excitement of the day, with the ultimate purpose of refreshing and recharging.” With these two distinct yet harmonious moods, Bernerd effortlessly evokes the serene character of Capri and the vast richness of its light, from, in her words, “the soft, layered textures of the morning light to the warm, enveloping tones of dusk.”
Archetypal design
With its archetypal design, AXOR One elegantly completes Tara Bernerd’s Azzurro while reflecting the guiding philosophy of the "Escape the ordinary" campaign. “To escape the ordinary,” Bernerd says, “demands design that elevates everyday routines into extraordinary experiences, that makes the bathroom not just a utilitarian space but a sanctuary.” A unique combination of both function and beauty, AXOR One meets this imperative exquisitely, making the Azzurro bathroom a rejuvenating retreat away from the stresses of everyday life.
