Anna Lindgren and Sofia Lagerkvist. Two of the founders of Front. A design studio with worldwide popularity. And a successful design export from Sweden. The “avantgardistes” are keen to experiment. Conventional ideas are discarded. During product design. And during the manufacturing process. They blur the boundaries between interior design and art.

Their design is not considered typically Scandinavian. It is experimental. Playing with visual effects. Inspired by fashion, film or science. Every item they design is always magical. An expression of their tongue-in-cheek approach to objects and their delight in the element of surprise. Qualities that have made the international design scene sit up and take notice.

AXOR WaterDream by Front.

Award-winning: a new perspective on the shower.

The collaboration between AXOR and Front started in 2013. With an AXOR WaterDream. The objective was to reinterpret the shower. This resulted in an installation made up of pipes, valves and funnels – and therefore new archetypes. An experience of water in its most primordial form. In 2014, the AXOR WaterDream by Front won the coveted Wallpaper* Design Award as the best concept for the shower.

The installation eventually led to the AXOR ShowerProducts designed by Front. This has also took home awards for its unique design. Including the German Design Award in 2015.

The aesthetics of technical installation.

Bringing water pathways to life, in their most primordial form. The Front designers take their creation back to basics: “We wanted to elegantly draw attention to the hidden aesthetics of technology and create a charming design object made from pipes, valves and funnels.”

The AXOR ShowerProducts designed by Front are unusual yet also familiar: they are archetypes in shower design. And also a homage to traditional workmanship and industrial design.

Front. The Swedish “avantgardistes”.

The three young Swedes met while studying at university in Stockholm. After graduating in industrial design, they established their own design studio in 2004. At that time, Charlotte von der Lancken was also on board. They discuss and design as a team. Throughout the entire process: from the initial idea to product launch.

“Our aim is always to add something special to a project. Or something unexpected.” A philosophy that is very popular with the international furniture industry. For example, Moroso, Porro, Moooi, Established & Sons, Kvadrat, Stelton and IKEA.

As well as items for industrial production, they also create one-off pieces for collectors or galleries. Works from Front can be found in leading museums, such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Front has collected numerous awards, including “Designer of the Future” (Art Miami Basel, 2006), “Designer of the Year” (Elle Deco in Sweden and Architektur und Wohnen in Germany, 2010) and the “Interior Innovation Award” in 2014. More on Front: www.frontdesign.se
