Schiltach, August 2019. Flanders’ most dynamic design hotel, the Suite Hotel De Gulde Schoen, can be found in the heart of Antwerp, in one of the city’s oldest buildings, constructed in 1493. An historic building with a name that refers to a golden shoe could not find more appropriate owners than star footballer Mousa Dembélé, his mother Tilly and his sister Assita. The trio gave the building an extensive renovation, transforming it into a high-end suite hotel. Today’s visitors will be seduced by an elegant but subtle blend of old and new, noticeable from the inner courtyard to the cloistered arcades to the stone-sculpted frieze framing the gilded entrance.

For bathrooms in keeping with De Gulde Schoen’s atmosphere of urbane sophistication, the hoteliers opted for AXOR Citterio E at the washbasin, bath and shower (where the AXOR Citterio E wall bar is combined with Citterio-designed AXOR ShowerSelect products). A monument to timeless elegance, AXOR Citterio E is characterized by the harmonious balance of opposites. Upstairs, De Gulde Schoen’s nine luxury suites each boast an open fireplace. Downstairs, a delicious mix of decorative influences come together to create a truly unique sense of place. The fusion of styles and sensations continues at the opulent Gilded Restaurant, with its Mediterranean-Asian menu, and at the cozy Gilded Bar, presided over by award-winning mixologists. Ideally situated in the historic heart of one of Europe’s great cities of culture, the Gulde Schoen is more than a hotel. It is a destination in itself.
