About Antonio Citterio

The architect and designer from Milan has influenced international design like no-one else. He has succeeded in combining timelessness and Zeitgeist.

Axor particularly values his reliable instinct for creating a timeless, simple design concept in combination with high-quality materials – after all, a bathroom needs to last for many years. The best Italian design goes hand in hand with German quality, as revealed in three Axor collections and an accessories range which Antonio Citterio started designing in 2000: Axor Citterio, Axor Citterio M, Axor Citterio E and Axor Universal accessories.

Antonio Citterio, born in 1950 in the northern Italian city of Meda, designed his first piece of furniture in his father's workshop. At 18 he received a design award for his hand-made cupboard. At 22, while still studying for his degree in architecture at the Milan Polytechnic, he opened his own design studio. In 1999 he founded the Antonio Citterio and Partners studio with Patricia Viel.

With fifty or so employees, they carried out international projects involving architecture, interiors and design. Citterio's ideas are successfully implemented by the world's leading brands. Luxury hotels in the Bulgari Group, major furniture manufacturers, or even public buildings including offices.

Antonio Citterio receives numerous awards. In 2007 he received the title "Royal Designer" from the British Royal Society.

Celebrate the use of water

"If you enjoy the ritual of washing everyday, you should be able to use beautiful products for it." For Axor, this insight formed the starting point for the collaboration with Citterio. In 2003 the bathroom world gained a particularly timeless and elegant collection, which the designer uses to pay tribute to water.

"First and foremost, I'm an architect", said the Italian grandmaster, who drew inspiration for the design from modern city life and in particular from Milan.

In 2007 the outcome of this was an understated, slimline bathroom collection, characterised by a sense of timelessness.

The design success continues with the third bathroom collection. Citterio's typical style is unmistakeable: timeless design and Italian eleganza create perfect luxury.

The mixers and showers for wash basins, showers and bath tubs feature classic appeal and modern functionality.

Turn the everyday into something special

In addition to the third bathroom collection for Axor, Antonio Citterio has been working on his own accessories range and innovative solutions for both bathrooms and kitchens.

Not only do the shelves, bath towel holders, soap dispensers and even the clothes hooks perfectly complement the Axor Citterio collections, their individual elements can also be universally integrated into any style.
