Axor Starck V: experience the vitality of water

Well mixer featuring a water vortex

Axor and Philippe Starck create a stir at the wash basin

March 2015. At the Milan Furniture Fair 2014, Axor unveiled a world exclusive for the very first time: Axor Starck V. The basin mixer, which was developed in collaboration with designer Philippe Starck, totally accentuates the power and beauty of the water. The mixer is transparent and creates a captivating vortex when used – providing an intensive experience of water at the wash basin.

“My father Klaus Grohe has long been preoccupied with exploring the vortex phenomenon”, explained Philippe Grohe, Vice President of Design Management at Hansgrohe SE. “His idea of using the vortex to bring water to life formed the starting point for the creation of this mixer. Our partner, long-time friend Philippe Starck, created a unique casing for the vortex; he also contributed valuable input into our development process. Axor Starck V is the result of successfully combining technical know-how with the ultimate in water and product design expertise, along with decades of experience in bathroom design”, continued the grandson of company founder Hans Grohe. According to Philippe Starck, the result is “a mixer that has been reduced to the absolute minimum: completely transparent, practically invisible, and the source of a natural wonder – the vortex.”

The vortex: the interaction between man and water
Axor's product development has always focused on man's interaction with water and space. This principle is also reflected in the new Axor Starck V basin mixer. With the beauty and dynamism of its vortex, the mixer bridges the gap between the functional and emotional aspects of water at the washbasin, transforming it from a basic commodity into a valuable resource.

Organic design and the aesthetics of transparency
The unobtrusive presence of the organic, transparent design adds special emphasis to any bathroom setting. The transparency of the mixer acts as a technical and aesthetic component: it makes the water visible, and allows the mixer body to blend in with its surroundings. The open spout of the mixer adds to the unique water experience, creating an emotional bond between user and water.

Using technology and innovation to bring water to life True to the Hansgrohe principle of developing aesthetic, functional and sustainable products, Axor Starck V features multiple technological innovations. For example, the spout of the mixer is made of organic crystal glass, an exceptionally durable material. The mixer also features a reduced flow rate of 4l/minute – without compromising the user experience in any way. The rotatable, open and detachable spout offers added convenience: it is easy to install and can also be cleaned in the dishwasher if required.

Axor Starck V base sets are available in fifteen particularly scratch-proof and detergent-resistant PVD surface finishes, including chrome, gold finish, red gold, black chrome, nickel, brass, stainless steel finish and bronze via the in-house Axor Manufaktur.
