The Turning Torso stands out in the flat
coastline scenery of southern Sweden, winding
itself high into the sky. At nearly 200 metres,
it is presently the highest residential building
in Europe. However, it is not only its thrilling
height, but more especially Turning Torso’s
spectacular architecture that gave the New York
Museum of Modern Art reason to declare the
Santiago Calatrava tour de force one of the 25
most exciting skyscrapers in the world. Supported
by an 820-ton steel “spine”, the 54 floors wind
up around their own axis. The inside of the
building is no less brilliant; it offers 147
apartments with unprecedented floor plans and
exclusive interiors.
